About the Studio

A few years ago, I started painting again, almost out of nowhere. I kept going until my living room slowly turned into a studio, with tubes of paint and brushes finding their way into every corner of my apartment.

Wanting to paint bigger and give my practice more space to grow, I eventually moved into a small studio in Berlin Tempelhof. Week by week, it is filling up too.

But my studio has never really been a fixed place. It can emerge wherever I am. I am deeply influenced by the colors, materials and possibilities I find in different places, often working with what is already there. The Sbagha Collection, for example, emerged from the colors, pigments and materials I encountered in Morocco. In that sense, every place can temporarily become part of my studio.

The studio in Berlin is a growing place, too. I love collaborating with other artists and slowly filling the space with objects that carry their own stories. Things made by hand, by people whose work I admire. I like the idea that the studio grows not only through my own work, but through the work and traces of others as well.

Painting constantly, and being surrounded by this growing body of work, has finally given me the space to bring to life something that has probably been inside me all along. A quiet knowing that was always there: that I have to paint. That there was never really another option.
